This is the largest and most spectacular of Peninsular Malaysia's east coast islands measuring 39km long and 12km wide. The island is covered in dense jungle and High Mountain peaks.

Seasickness: Motion sickness resulting from the pitching and rolling of a ship or boat in water, especially at sea.

On good friday, KT and I decided to go to the island of Tioman (Pulau Tioman) in Malaysia along with two of our colleagues. It was a very long drive from the fine city to Mersing Jetty and from there we have to take a 4-hour ferry ride. Thanks to the guy who sold JT the tickets and told us that the ferry ride only takes 1.5 hours!
When we reached the island at nearly 4pm, we quickly checked into out small beachfront hut and ate lunch at the nearest restaurant.
Then we walked around the small area in search of fun things to do for the next day. We have an option to dive or island hopping and snorkling. We chose to dive.
The next morning, KT and I skipped breakfast before diving as KT always gets seasick on the boat. At 930am we boarded the boat. The waves are quite strong and the boat is moving a lot while I try to rig up my diving equipment. This led to me being seasick (for the 1st time!) the whole trip. I started to throw up but nothing came out as I did not eat anything for breakfast. When it was time to dive I cannot go down the water (i think my weights are not enough) as well as KT so we just decided to go back to the boat and endured long minutes of seasickness. When it was time for SI, i tried to go into the water and do some snorkling to get rid of my seasickness but it didn't work. We diecided not to do the second dive and the boat took us back to land. Once on land my seasickness faded away. I really felt bad that I have to cancel a dive because I got seasick! And I never get seasick - this is my first time. Then I can hear my mommy saying "Patay ang Diyos ngayon (God is dead today)" whenever we are in Baguio on Black Saturday and we wanted to go down to La Union beacause there's not much to do. I guess that's what we get for diving on Black Saturday.
For the rest of the day we just stayed at the hut, went to the beach, played uno and eat. Early the next morning we started our journey back to the fine city.

Today, when I went online, I searched seasick and diving online and found out that I got seasick not because it's black saturday, it's because we did not eat anything for breakfast! On the boat I kept thinking why I got seasick. Now I know why. I read in one forum that it's better to eat before you board the boat than not to eat because if you get sick once you throw up it will be over. But if you don't eat, you will be sick all day! Now even just writing and thinking about Tioman makes me seasick!

Room To Room

One of the gift I received from my boyfriend is called "Room-To-Room". When I opened the box, I thought he bought me a baby doll cabinet like the one's you find in the toys section of the mall because it looks like a barbie doll's closet. But then I realized that it's for stroring jewelries! I was so happy because I have been thinking how I can store my jewelries/accessories like a real store! All my jewelries used to be inside one 'kikay bag' so some of it I hardly wear because I seldom see it. I even thought of asking every girl friend I have on how they keep their stuff. It's a good thing he got this for me! The only problem is, I can't figure out if I placed my stuff in the right place. Yesterday we celebrated christmas eve at a Allain's place with some of our common friends. I cooked menudo for the first time and I'm glad they liked it! I always thought that my cooking only suits my taste that's why I always tell my colleagues that I don't cook Filipino food. I guess I can say that I cook my own version of Filipino food! Then before we cap off the evening/morning we had a shot of Lemoncino, an Italian dirink (i think) that Allain said that the Italians said they use to detox. Interesting! And when I checked the label it's 30% alcohol! Oh yeah, it will surely detox your stomack because of those alcohol! The drink was nice but very very strong. It took me i think 4 sips to finish one shot. After that my boyfriend's so red that we headed straight home.
Today, christmas day, we just attended mass in the morning. Took a nap in the afternoon and went to orchard for some shopping. I feel like I needed to walk off the few extra pounds that I gained over the christmas week! And the first thing my boyfriend bought were playstation 2 games for 100 Baht each! He bought Burnout Revenge (my favorite), NBA 2006 and Topspin. The last two games I haven't played yet because I still can't get the hang of the controls. Anyway, next thing he bought was an oakley shades for he does not want his transition lenses with real oakley frame sunglass to get lost in the beach! And as for me I was hoping to get a small Gucci bag but it's really overpriced (cost way more than the fake bags in Bangkok). But it's ok, I just bought three Lacoste bags not more than a week ago! It's a very fascinating street actually, you can find groceries, restaurants, pubs, entertainment/gaming centers, street food, desset and coffee shops and even drag shows. After more than an hour of walking and window shoppping, we decided to head back to the hotel and call it a night.

The next morning we had an early breakfast and took a stroll at the beach to see what we can do for the day. Unfortunately, the weather did not agree with us as it rained that morning. We were both soaked going back to our hotel. The good thing is, it did not rain that long and as soon as it's over, we quickly headed to the beach to get a feel of Chaweng beach. The first thing I noticed is that there are a lot of Europeans in Koh Samui! Now I know why Thailand has a better econmy than us! And like back home, there are a lots of beach vendors. We decided to have a henna tatoo each. I had a sun tatooed on by back and I can't understand what symbol KT had but it was pretty cool too. Plus it feels very nice that I haggled my way into getting the 2 tatoos for 200 Baht. It's actually expensive by my home standards but since I live in the fine city, it' considered as fairly cheap. And after haggling my way with a native accessories vendor, I was able to buy four native bracelets to give to the girls back in the fine city. And then we decided to rent a jetski! It was quite expensive for a 30 minute ride (900 Baht) but we both want to ride so we took it. At first, I let KT have all the fun so he can go as fast as he can. Then I took a ride with him for I'm not sure if I can ride again. Even if I know that I don't have anything to fear, I still get that first few minute jitters. And it was because of the trauma I had when Gilbert (an org team mate in college) and I flew from a Jetski because of overspeeding and big waves. I survived with a cut in my left leg plus I lost my canon camera lens cap! When it was my turn alone, I was so cautious as the wave is quite strong but I was able to max the speed for a while and it felt so good. But still, I'm afraid of flying out of the ski again and I'm afraid to fly off alone! And after all the jetski excitement we just lay by the beach with the three very cool topless Fench ladies beside us! And before heading back to our room, we had a massage by the hotel pool. It was soooooo good. You really feel all the tension and stress of your body going away.

And that night, we decided to indulge and treat ourselves to a delicious dinner of King Prawns in Garlic and Butter Sauce with White Wine! It was soooo yummy! Plus we had mixed veggies in oyster sauce and fruit shakes. A true indulgence. And with all the calories we gained, we decided to walk down the street again to book for a tour the next day. Plus we managed to buy some toiletries that are cheaper in Thailand! =)

The next day is our trip to Angtong National Marine Park for kayaking, sight seeing and snorkling. Our first activity was kayaking. It was my first time kayaing in the sea so I'm quite excited and nervous at the same time. Back home , I only kayak in the man-made lagoon of Puerto Balauarte. This is KT's first time kayaing. Our group was split into 2, the other group chose the open water part of the sea while we choose to follow one of the tour guides and kayak in between the small islands. It was very tiring to paddle and we came in 4th out of 5 teams. Now I'm having doubts if we can make it in The Amazing race! But in fairness, KT got a heavier paddle and we had a had time paddling with our life vests on. We decided to rest in one of the white sand beach and went on a dip to cool ourselves. I was so glad I wore a two piece as all the ladies with us are wearing it. I would certainly look like an astronaut if I wore my tankini! Then we went back to the main park and had a Thai lunch after which, they gave us time to relax around the beach before we headed to another island to see the lagoon. It was quite a climb to the top of Mae Koh Isand but it was worth all the perspiration as the view is spectacular! It was nothing I've ever seen before and I was glad we too this tour!

After working our upper body with kayaking and our lower body with climbing that mountain, it's time to feast our eyes and go snorkling at Coral Island and our crew came prepared with bread to feed the fishes. When I jumped in the water, the first thing I noticed is that the water is not as clear as back home. And the second is that I'm having a stiff neck because of my life vest so I did not see a lot of the corals and fishes as much as I want to. But I did enjoy feeding the fishes with the bread. It's a little scary when you see all of them swimming towards you and getting the piece of the bread but it was quicte fun too! Now I wish I still had my underwater camera with me! And after all that activities, I was asleep during the hour and a half speed boad ride back to the pier!

When the tour dropped us back to the hotel, we were both hungry so we headed to Swensen's for desserts! It was so good! I really like their chocolate ice cream. I'm even thinking of franchising it back home. I wonder how it will cost me? A lot, I would think. Then we went to a dive shop to see how much an Ocean Pack is (too bad we did not buy this there as it's so damn expensive here!) and then we went to Tops for barbeque food. After that we went back to the hotel for a nap before we watch the Drag Queen Show at Stars. But when it's time to go, I was so sleepy even KT can't make me get up. We missed the show and we just decided to go to Mc Donalds for midnight snack since it's the only food shop that's open.

The next day is our last day at Koh Samui. I had a quick breakfast (KT said he does not take that much breakfast during trips!) and I decided to hit the beach one last time! It was really sunny that day So I put on lots of that SPF 130 sunscreen we bought. Normally I would not go to the beach if it's that sunny, but I have this feeling that somehow the beach had cured my UTI problems beacause yesterday, I was sure I'm going to have one but after a dip in the beach, it did not happen. And I realized that it's been more than a year that I have not swim in a beach so maybe, just maybe, it has a curing effect on me! After that we headed to Tops to buy some chips for our flatmate and our colleages at work then we headed to the nearest massage parlor for a last minute Thai Massage! Our first massage was so good that we decided to have another one before we head back to the stressful fine city! Then we got dressed, checked out of the hotel, had our last Thai lunch and headed to Samui International Airport. We were there early and while waiting we took lots of photos of the airport that I wish we had back home. It was like a village with huge 'bahay kubos' and there is a shuttle bus to transport the passengers to the plane. It was so pretty! (pahiram Rosh!) Plus, they have a coutesy corner where passengers can get free food and drinks! Too bad we were so full from our luch that we only tasted the orange juice!

And unfortunately, our trip has to come to an end and we had to go back to the hustle and bustle of the fine city. But it was truly a memmorable trip and even more memorable because it's the first trip we had together as a couple!

fine city < > fine people

Over the past few weeks I've learned: a fine city is not equal to fine people.

Early last month when we were searching for a new flat to rent, we found on the internet an ad for a 3 bedroom flat whose price is lower than the ones in our list. So we decided to contact the agent and after work on that day we went to the condo to see the place. We liked the place and we placed a deposit so that the owner can reserve the place for us until the time our contract form the old flat expires.
But to cut the long story short, I'm not satistified with the service that our real estate agent has given us! She does not deserve the commission we gave her.. and she even charged GST!
Below are the reason why:
1. On our supposedly 3rd meeting, she wants to get our deposit and sign the intent to lease. We told her we can meet her and the owner at the condo but we can only be there for like 30 minutes because we still need to go back to the office to wor. When we went to the condo she was late and then requested us to wait and then SMS us that the owner will be late also. If you are a professional agent, if you know that the owner will be late, isn't it just right for you to call and inform the other party?
2. She's supposed to terminate our electricity, water, and gas bill from our old flat and apply a new one for the new flat. Out of the blue I decided to call the company and then I learned that a third party is not allowed to terminate the services! I was surprised to know that because if you are not a new agent, you WOULD know that! So my boyfriend just called the company to terminate it.
3. But I still did not get the lesson.. We still hired her and then she did not convey correct terms and condition of the contract to me. During the signing night we were all surprised that our lease end date changed. Well actually it did not change, she just told me the wrong end date!
4. She can't "fight" for us. She gets overpowered easily by the owner's agent. And she even had the guts to ask for her commission on that day!
5. We informed them that we will be bringing in the new flat a sofa, a few side tables and the rest of our personal stuff. Since it's condo, you would need a permit from the management. We told her over and over again to get a permit for us because if we don't get in, we will waste our money paying for the lorry. Come move in day, when we got to the condo we found from the guards that we don't have a permit!! It's a good thing the guards let us in by just filling out the form. Also, special thanks to the driver of our lorry for speaking with the guards to let us in.
6. A week after moving, the electriciy service company sent us a mail stating that if we did not give them the complete documents that they need, they will be forced to stop their services! That is the same document that our agent said that she has already sent the company. That's the one thing that she did on her own but still she managed to mess it up! Again, we end up doing it ourselves.
I swear, if ever we renew this contract next year, I will not hire her anymore. I will ask my previous real estate agent. And I would NOT even recommend her to her friends.
To all, beware of ONH or CBRES. I would just recommend my previous agent - Doris.

Then from one real estate to another. This time it's my previous landlord's agent.
We were asked if we could move out of the flat earlier and the owner would just compensate us for the remaining days. We happily agreed because we already have a new flat to move into. We just emailed him a disclaimer that we might not be able to thoroughly clean the flat because there's not much time. But actually, we were able to clean the whole flat even the appliances. We even bought an expensive steam cleaner and even took leave just to clean so that the owner will be pleased and give us our deposit back. And true enough, when we handed them the key, the owner was satisfied with the cleanliness of the place except for some cupboards that are dusty because we do not use it. Overall, the flat is even cleaner than when it was handed to us a year ago.
The next day when we ask the owner's agent if the TV is working (because we were not able to test it) he replied that the new tenant is very angry - screaming and shouting - because the flat is not clean. Then the owner told us that he need to hire help and pay $80 to have the flat cleaned.
Then the agent requested for the copy of our last aircon service receipt. We faxed him the receipt dated July 31 and then he complained again saying that we need to have it cleaned every 3 months. he is asking if they can charge us $100 to have it cleaned. But technically, the next cleaning service should be Oct 31 and we moved out Oct 2. But just to shut them up, we had the aircon cleaned with our own contractor. When we went to the place to pay the aircon guys, the flat does not seem clean at all!
And then, when we want to collect our deposit, the owner requested if he can charge us at least half of the cleaning fee he paid. I said no. We have agreed with all their request, it's now time he pay us our deposit. And the flat does not even look clean! It;s a good thing he agreed easily. I'm thinking this is just his agent's way of getting money or to save face because the new tenant gave them a hard time. But, whew, I'm so relieved this is over and I don't have to deal with them anymore!

Now real estate agents have a bad image for me.. all of them are just after the $$$$$.

And don't even get me started about those selling electronics in Sim Lim and China Town!!!

Homesick

For the first time since I started woking here, I can say that I'm homesick. Maybe it's because I was sick that I longed for home. And I'm actually fighting tears as I'm writing this. But I guess, it's just about time that I feel this way. I'm starting to think that there's something wrong with me when I ask myself, how come I don't miss home. It seems that being assigned to projects abroad and being away from home after college helped. This experience is just like one long project assignment and one day I will be back home again.
But after a year it seems that my mind, my body and my heart long to be back home. To be with my family and friends, to drive my car, to be in Glorietta and GB3, eat cheap and delicious food, listen to Chico and Delamar, watch showbiz talk shows and local drama series, to feel the cool breeze of Baguio, to go to a real white sand beach, etc etc etc!
It also seems that life has become routine. Monday - we go to work then go home, watch TV, sometimes play Burnout in PS2, sleep. Tuesday - we go to work then go home, watch TV, sleep. Wednesday - we go to work then have something to eat in china town, go back to the office to do recon, then go home, watch TV, sleep. Thursday - we go to work then go home and play tennis, have dinner in Mc Donalds, watch TV, sleep. Friday - we go to work and sometimes go to the mall and watch a movie or just have dinner. Saturday - wake up a little late, have lunch, sometimes go to the mall. Sunday - try to wake up early for 7am Tennis, then sleep again, have lunch then go to Mass. Life has become a routine.
I guess moving from one flat to another and dealing with crappy real estate agents has taken its toll on me. Our life was somehow put on hold until we have settled in a new one. I was even thinking that I don't want to go through this again if we're giong to change flats next year. I'd rather go back home. *Sigh* Hopefully by this weekend I can get my life together again.

Shout Out: I desperately need a vacation!

On MC

I'm on MC today - that's what the locals here call a sick leave. I'm not really sure what MC stands for but what the heck, everyone uses it if a colleague is on sick leave!
Anyway, I've been coughing and sneezing for the past three days and I decided to take the day off and just rest here at home. My boyfriend left for work at around 845 am (late as usual) and I got up and turned on the TV because today (9am via satellite) is the premier of my favorite reality show in the world - The Amazing Race (Family Edition).
Watching TV and coughing is not a very good combination and I wanted to take my medicine. But I need to eat first. Unfortunately, since we are in the middle of a flat move, there's not much healthy food around here. All i can eat was cheese and bacon omellet with mushroom soup and rice. Then I took my medicine.. Ascorbic Acid, another one for my cough and a paracetamol because I've been having headaches because of too much coughing. Either that or it's just the heat. Then one of my colleague SMS me that my boyfriend is hers for the day since I'm on MC. Hahaha! I just told her to take good care of him and bring him back in one piece! That's just one of the jokes we have at the office. My colleague SP always jokes that she has the hots for my boyfriend. But even if it's true, it does not bother me because I know he's not going to take her seriously.
Then I decided to take a nap because I got bored watching Girl Interrupted on Star Movies. Then I woke up coughing with a terrible headache. I decided to take a shower to cool myself down. I ate champorado and took my medicines again.
Now I'm still coughing my lungs off. Later, I'll ask my other flatmate if I can have some of his "Pei Pak Wa" (a cough syrup he took for his cough) and I asked my bf to buy me something healthy with vitamin C so that hopefully, tomorrow I will feel much better.

G-Force One

After watching The Apprentice's reward last Sunday, this has made it to my wish list!!

Only US4,000 per trip!! (pics on your left)
Actually, I had no intentions of getting myself a new raquet since I'm going back home in a few days and it could be cheaper there. But while buying his H4 the stringer guy showed us the TiS6 and told us it is comparable to H4 but a little cheaper. Plus KT researched that it is the number 1 best-selling tennis raquet. I thought about it and went to other shops to get some more opinions. In one shop I went to, the owner is busy with some customers so I helped myself and took out the raquet from the display and looked at it. Then I was surprised to hear one guy say to me "That is a good raquet My wife and my lady friends use that." I just smiled. Then another guy second the motion and said, "Yes, that's a good ladies raquet!" With those opinions, I can't help but buy it! =) (Even if that is my yellow girl's tennis raquet brand!)
Then last tuesday, we had the pleasure of playing in the sossy condo of our colleague. The raquet is great! My serve is still weak though but I can control the ball and playing is not as difficult as before. The H4 is of a newer model than the one we rented but it has the same power. It's easier to do a forehand with this racquet because you don't need much effort. Although, it's so powerful that sometimes the ball gets out of the court. KT told me that with my TiS6 he CAN volley, unlike the H4. (Hmmm I don't mind exchanging it with a more expensive one!)
So which is better, honestly, I still don't know! As I've said before, I'm not good at rating these stuff. Im just happy that I can have a good excercise by playing tennis and playing it better.

This fine city I live in

The first thing I noticed when I first went to this city is that it's so green! There are trees everywere that somewhat makes the very humid weather bearable. And I like that. That's just one of the things that makes this city a fine city. There is the:
Convinient transportation - you can go to anywhere via taxi , bus, or train
EZ Link - the fare card you can use to ride the bus and train and can even charge your 7-11 or Mc Donald purchases
Clean Air - from where I came from you will not find this except in the provinces
Pedestrian Priority - most motorists really stop to give way to pedestrians
Malls - malls that are interconnected to each other so you can conviniently go from one mall to another without the hassle of going outside
Clean Public Restroom - even has tissue papers and automatic flush!
English Language- almost everybody speaks english
Bank Transfer - transferring funds to other banks is possible online without charge
Low income tax - that's why I decided to work here
Variety of Food - the best part is tasting all the good fud that a multi-racial country has to offer

And that list comes only from me.. I'm sure there are a lot more good things aother people that have lived in this city for quite a while can say. Truly, size doesn't matter.

Pilot

Thanks to our UAT being posponed to thursday, I finally got the chance to start my own blog. Not that I don't have the time, it's just pure laziness (and lack of creative "juices") that kept me from starting this. It even took me two das to create and to finish this post! It's also because I'm not sure if my thoughts are interesting enough for people to read. Back in highschool I'm a news writer, so I'm not used to using "flowery words" in my writing. News people tend to follow the KISS rule.. keep it short and simple (or sweet?!).

Over the past few weeks, my boyfriend is obsessed about Wilson.. Wilson H4 Hammer Tennis Raquet! And last sunday we were able to rent (to test) an H4 raquet which we tested for a few minutes in our condo tennis court. A I said a few minutes because we have no booking on that time slot and when he saw that nobody's playing, we went ahead and played for a while. It's a good thing the two guys who booked that time slot was late. And so we tested the H4. It feels better than our old raquets, you don't feel the vibration and i can serve and volley better. I'm not really an expert tennis player and I have not used that many a raquet so that's all I can say! For the next week H4 has yet to prove itself worthy of that expensive tag price...

But! My boyfriend liked it and found out that It's so cheap in the US. That's why I've been bugging all my friends there and see how much they can ship it here. Now he's been searching for the cheapest H4 all over the city. Oh men and their gadgets!
